2008-02-16 ㅣ No.8439  Isla Grant - Mother''s Chair There''s an old armchair and it means the world to me, For I used to sit there, upon my mother''s knee, And she''d read to me the stories that children love to hear, Now (No) there''s no one to sit in mother''s chair. I still recall the many times, the words she''d say to me, Fight for all your dreams, turn them to reality, And as I sat by her in wonder, her eyes held so much pride, I knew against all others, I had mother on my side. Mother''s chair is old and dusty and the color''s fading fast, But to me it holds the memory of happy days long past, Like the way she''d smile and hold my hand, brush away my tears Now there''s no one to sit in mother''s chair. Now the old chair is still standing where she left it on that day When God came to visit and carry her away. And every time I see it, it looks so cold and bare, Now there''s no one to sit in mother''s chair.  어머니의 의자 낡은 안락의자가 하나 있어요, 내게는 그 의자가 온 세상이지요. 거기 어머니 무릎위에 늘 앉아 있었으니까요. 그러면 엄마가 아이들이 듣고 싶어 하는 이야기들을 읽어 주시곤 했지요 이제는 어머니 의자에 앉을 사람이 아무도 없어요. 나는 아직도 어머니가 나한테 여러 번 들려 주셨던 말씀이 생각나요 네 모든 꿈들을 실현시키기 위해 노력하여야 한단다라는 그 말씀이... 내가 감탄하면서 엄마 곁에 앉으면 엄마의 두 눈에 자랑거리가 가득 담겨 있었죠. 모든 다른 사람들을 상대하여 나는 엄마를 내편으로 차지했지요. 어머니 의자는 낡아 먼지투성이이고 색깔도 빠르게 바래가고 있어요. 하지만 내게는 그 의자가 흘러가 버린 즐거웠던 날들의 추억을 간직하고 있어요. 엄마가 내 손잡고 미소 지셨던 것처럼 내 눈물을 닦아주지요. 이제는 어머니 의자에 앉을 사람이 아무도 없어요. 엄마의 의자는 지금도 엄마가 떠나시던 날 남겨진 그 자리에 그대로 있지요 하느님이 방문 오셔서 엄마를 데려 가신 그날 그대로. 내가 그 의자를 볼 때마다 썰렁하니 텅 비어 보여요. 이제는 어머니 의자에 앉을 사람이 아무도 없어요.
